Dr. Spicka isn't a bad teacher at all. No one really likes history and if you hate it you will probably think its boring but its really not all that bad. Spicka has 1 midterm and 1 final neither are cumulative. you will have to participate in 1 debate (its a really easy 100 and you can pick when you go. and then there are 3 papers (as long as you read half the book and look up some stuff you could get a B). For the midterm and the final you get a study guide so use it. For the essays you can hand it in early and he will look over it for you. there are 3 surprise quizzes that are based on the readings except he will say a couple times "MAKE SURE YOU REALLY DO THIS NEXT READING" but they are only graded by checks not actual As or Bs. All in all hes really not a bad guy and as long as you use the resources that he provides and at least listen in class you'll do fine. he's also really nice in person if you need to talk about something. He understands that not everyone likes history so he tries to help you out if he can. He's one of the more understanding professors I have had. The only down side is he seems to get nervous while trying to talk so he stutters a little bit.

If he has a good class scheduled around you, I suggest taking him! The class itself is very easy. The quiz is one of three questions he presents to you a week in advance. The tests, only midterm and final, are essay based. He gives you exactly what will be on the test. For example, on the study guide were four possible essays. On the test were two, and you only had to pick one to write. Its a really easy class and I enjoy him as a teacher. He is super helpful and will try to meet with you if his office hours conflict with something else that you have.

Spicka is the only prof I've meet so far who teaches his Gen Ed, like... Gen Ed. You never have to do extra work. It's an easy class:
1) You ONLY have 1 four page essay and 2 exams! He gives like a quiz a week but he always gives you the questions ahead of time
2) I never had to take notes because he gives you all the questions for the two exams and weekly quizzes ahead of time! Seriously he gives you the exact question that will be on them!

He is very nice! He doesn't require much outside of class. We have occasional quizzes based off readings. We know there's a quiz ahead of time and the question(s) are broad and very easy. As long as you read the material for the quiz, you should pass. It isn't a quiz that encompasses everything from the last quiz, it's just off of the readings you were supposed to have read that day. They are on the syllabus so they aren't pop quizzes. There's a midterm and final exam. The midterm was not hard at all. He gave us a list of vocab, said what we needed to know for it, gave us a collection of short answer questions and long essay questions. He picked what was on the exam but then from there, you picked the rest. He gave us around 15 vocab on the study guide. Then gave us around 8 to pick from on the exam. We only had to pick 5. For the short answer, he gave us 2 on the study guide. He put one of them on the exam. He gave us 3 big essay questions to study for. They were not the exact questions, just general ideas we would need to know. He put two of them on the exam and you had to pick one. It was not bad at all. We have to read books and write a paper answering a prompt on the book. It's not hard either. He isn't a hard grader and he is super friendly. I would definitely take him again.

Dr. Spicka's classes were mainly lectures but he didn't demand too much outside of class. There is a current event presentation and a paper on a play. He has quizzes mainly every week but the questions are given ahead of time. His midterm and final, I found kinda challenging because there was so much material to go over. But, he is very kind and very reasonable on the work he assigns!

He is a really nice guy and really easy..he gives you the quizzes every week BUT he gives you the questions b4 hand and he grades them soo easy!! You have one term-paper that isn't hard if you do it haha .. a current event presentation which is cake and he grades it easy also! .. one cultural event on campus with a pg reaction paper which is also cake! His exams on the other hand you have to study for or you will not do well... he grades those the hardest but as long as you know what you're talking about its all good! The only bad thing I have to say about him is that I fell asleep in almost all of his classes!!! But I still got a B+ in History I and I'm doing very well in History II so YOU REALLY SHOULD TAKE HIM!!!

Dr. Spicka really understands students. I applaud him at his ability to understand that some people just don't care about History, and he shows that in the way he teaches and makes assignments. I, myself, am slightly interested in History, some things are interesting, but others I could not care about, so here is what I think about him from this point of view.
Dr. Spicka's classes usually consist of lecture, with a small amount of note from a powerpoint presentations. The presentations usually have some interesting pictures to go along. He encourages people to ask questions and discuss the current topic, but rarely picks random people to talk about the topic (Actually, the only time I remember him doing so, is when we have assigned reading). Here is the real kicker that makes Dr. Spicka a good professor. He lets you know what is going to be on the quizzes/exams. His quizzes are simply one question, short answer. He gives you two or three different questions (along with pages where the answer can be found) that may be the question for the quiz. For exams, he gives a general overview on what to expect, and for each section of the exam, he will give you some hints on what will be on it.
Overall, I find Dr. Spicka great, as he understand that History isn't for everyone. The only bad part, is that he made us buy a book that we never use (It's the green book, the title slipped my mind). We also read two novels, but they're both under 100 pages and actually somewhat interesting, so it wasn't that big of a deal.

Spicka is pretty easy. He basically gives you the notes. There are a few short readings that will come up on tests and quizzes, so make sure that you don't blow them off. He does give a few quizzes to make sure that you read the assigned material. His tests are writing. A few short paragraphs and an essay, no multiple choice or anything. Other than that, there is only 1 project and 1 paper. He seems a little nervous speaking in front of people, but he's really nice and definitely willing to help his students. He genuinely cares about you and your grade.

There are only 2 big tests, but you receive an outline for both. It takes a bit of reviewing, but it was easy to prepare for. The classes were mostly notes from overheads and a few group discussions, but he's a good teacher and very well educated on his subject. I think there may have been some quizzes, too, but nothing was too difficult. I never did the reading because he did a nice job outlining everything in class.

Dr. Spicka was a great teacher. You have a midterm and a final. You take notes from a powerpoint the whole time (so it can be boring, but he is funny). Dr. Spicka is amazing - he is very intelligent, very interested in his subject, and very young and cool. The class is so easy - it's all lecture and notes, and a couple of ridiculously easy quizzes. There is a midterm and final that are hard if you don't like writing - they're essay. However, if you just look over the material he gives you, you will do great. His lectures can be "boring" if you really don't like history, but I thought they were interesting. It's no wonder his sections for World History II were filled up on the first day of scheduling (meaning I couldn't get him again). If you can, take him!!!

Dr. Spicka was a great History teacher. The classes weren't the most fun, but the information was very organized, and I actually came out of it understanding almost everything. He prepares everyone very well for the quizzes and the midterm and final test. He's also always in a good mood, and obviously loves his job. He doesn't respond to emails very quickly, but if you miss a class or two, it isn't a big deal.

Dr. Spicka is a perfect example of what a professor should be. He organizes his lessons well and places great enthusiasm into his classes. He's also very genuine and practical...he asks for feedback throughout the semester (which to me shows he truly cares how the class takes to the information). The class itself was very interesting: 3 short books/novels with a 4-5 page paper on each, two exams, and a few quizzes which were simple-just seeing who did the short reading assignments really. I'm glad to have taken the class, I learned a lot.
The only negative...the one book about the railroads was ultra-boring! But other than that it was superb!

First off World History II unlike I is easy, its about things that we have been learning about since practically 6th grade. Spicka doesnt take attendance other then on a rare occasion which doesnt really matter... has quiz's about once a week which are a joke... they are on a check scale and you could not read a thing and still get a check. If youre like me and dont like to have grades based soley on tests then you may want to shy away because your grade is based primarily on the midterm final and a paper. However the midterm and final are 30 pt identifications and 70 pt essay. He is a good teacher and not hard at all.

Let me start off by mentioning that if there is just one professor that will put you to sleep in class, this is who it will be. He is the most boring professor I've had here. However, he is a good teacher. He wants everyone to be able to understand the information, so he gives quizzes pretty often. But he gives you the questions that are going to be on them, so they're not that big of a deal. There is one paper, the midterm, the final, and the quizzes that make up your grade. So it's not really that bad if you study. He's boring but fairly easy. So I do recommend him.

If you want to get your history requirements over with without any trouble, TAKE HIM.
* Tests are easy
* One paper the whole semester
* Gives you the questions before hand, even for the midterm and final.
Do not take him if you arent good at essays. They are short and easy, but not if you're a multiple choice kind of person.
* Do not buy Traditions and Encounters, its the biggest waste of money and you will regret it. (He doesnt use them)
* Read the Human Record book
* He is easy and is extremely focused on making you feel like you are right, even if you dont know what you're talking about.
I really suggest taking him if you want an easy A.

If you can read and write, you will get a good grade in this class. Just read your Human Record. Don't even bother buying the Traditions and Encounters book--you never get tested on any of it. Spicka's tests/quizzes are ALL WRITING. For me, that's good because you can bs your way through them. You have about a quiz a week on a reading/s from the Human Record text. He gives you 3 possible questions, then picks one on the day of the quiz. So you always know what to expect. This class is super easy, very dull at times, and Spicka shouts...that always kinda bothered me. But if you can write, Spicka is the prof to take.

Dr. Spicka is excellent. He gives you the questions to quizzes before you have them. He does the same thing with his finals. He makes sure you're not learning anything that will not be used on quizzes and finals. He is always willing to reason with a student if they are having a hard time, but that is pretty much impossible. It is an easy A+. I got a B because I was lazy. You don't have to study very much and you don't do a whole lot of reading. If I had to give Dr. Spicka a grade, it would be an A++!!!

Prof. Spicka is a nice guy, who genuinely cares about his students. He lectures every class period and you have to take notes from the overhead. He takes attendance on most days and really likes it when you volunteer. Class participation accounts for a lot, but even if you say something totally wrong, he makes it seem as though what you said is exactly right. He has one paper based on a novel you read outside of class, and a midterm and final. For the midterm and final, he gives you a list of the possible essay questions, so it is easy to study for. You also have to read documents, and then you get a quiz on them every other week. However, he gives you the two quiz essay questions, so its impossible to do bad if you read the documents. Take him if you can!

This was a great class to take for a gen ed! Dr. Spicka was a very fair grader. There would be weekly quizzes on the reading, but he always announced them before hand and gave you the questions in advance. He also gave you a study guide to both the midterm and the final. (i thought the final was kind of hard however) You only have to write one paper in the class, which i thought was easy and i got a good grade on it. Sometimes the class could be really boring (what history class isn't?!?) and i would pay more attention to him walking back and forth the front of the room. But he is a genuine teacher. (hey, and with kids of his own at home) I would definitely recommend! I can't wait to have him for history ii

His class is mainly lecture, and not all the information is all that interesting but he covers it all very well, and if you take good notes he really answers his midterm and final questions for you. There is about 1 quiz a week, but you are given possible questions ahead of time and if you study them you'll get and A or B. Also, he gives possible midterm and final questions ahead of time, use youre notes esp. to study and you'll be set! He's great! Definately take him if you get the chance!!

Okay I know he gives you a quiz every week almost, but they are not hard at all. He gives you the two or three possible essay questions a week ahead of time and then chooses one of them for the quiz. He also has this report where you have to write a thesis based on this book, it's easy, as long as you back up your evidence you'll get an A, even if he doesn't agree with your opinion. He lectures in class, and often times asks for students opinions on topics. He does take attendance, but the class isn't that bad anyway. His final and midterm are several essay questions and some document analysis. The work is not that hard at all, requires minimal effort at best.

Spicka is a great prof. He can be a little boring with all the lecturing but his class is well structured. He gives you the questions to all quizes and even the midterm and finial. he will give you about 4 questions ahead of time and you just need to be able to answer which ever one he picks for the midterm and finial. His class is structred so you can't help but learn. he doesn't make you learn dates and names that is the best part!!

Dr. Spicka is a great teacher. He really cares about his students and would do anything to help. Weekly quizzes arent bad, does take attendence though. I would reccommend him to anyone!

I decided to take Spicka because of the great reviews on here. His classes are so boring and he repeats himself non-stop. It seemed like everything I did in the class got a C. I hate history but even Dr.Clay graded a lot easier than him and she gets bad ratings on here. If you seriously hate history don't take him.

I wouldn't say he was a great teacher, cause he isn't. His classes were boring, and to sit and listen to his voice crack every couple of minutes was annoying. His grading system sucked. He bases his quizzes on a check system, and I got all check pluses. I did all the extra assignments and even extra credit. I did well on my midterm and paper and yet still ended up with a B. That grading doesn't seem right to me. I put in so much effort to just pull off a B. Besides his classes made you want to die. Although, he did provide some humor when he asks every single day "Any questions?, Any problems?, Anything at all?" and trust me the movements that go along with it are priceless!! I would recommend him if you need a history class that may not be so involved, but if your trying to get something out of it, don't take him.

Dr. Spicka is a nice guy and all but his grading system is retarded. He grades his quizzes on a check system which makes it difficult to keep track of your grade and gives him a little more leeway as to how high or low of a number grade he can give your check which can really screw you. He also can kind of play favorites, so stay on his good side. I did a TON of extra credit and had mostly all good grades, but still ended up with a C+, which def. should have been a B.

While Spicka's classes are quite easy (made up of lectures with overheads for note taking), his grading system kinda threw me. Instead of having a point system, quizzes were graded on a check system, which made it difficult to keep track of your grade. If you are not a good essay writer, I do not recommend him, as all quizzes are made up of essays and most of the midterm/final are essay as well.

This teacher has an easy to understand grading system. Minimal work is required for a B. There are many quizzes but he always gives the questions and readings with plenty of time beforehand. Boring class material but he throws in videos to try and liven it up. Nice man. Funny voice.

Dr. Spicka is a good teacher. But were I disagree, is when I went to his office several weeks before the end of the semester. We then went over my grades and I was told that I was at a (C+). I fell behind in my classes because of medical reasons. So, he proceeded to tell me that our final paper would be optional so, I asked him if I could hand in my paper a few days later and he said that it would be alright. Also, another classmate did the same. My paper was approximately 16 pages long and when I looked up my final grades on the website my grade that was at a (C+) was now raised to a (B-). Wow, all that extra work for that little bit of a grade boost? I thought that it was not fair and somewhat rude of him. I was a very good student in his class; with excellent attendance and good homework grades??? And I just think of all that money that I had just spent, I get no free money or assistantships.
