His tests are a bit tough, but Dr. R knows his stuff and is more than willing to help you understand the material. He's usually available and is so much fun to have in class, especially labs. He definitely nurtures curiosity and will go out of his way to help you understand and build on the concepts. TAKE THIS MAN'S CLASS!

Chemistry is a crappy course in itself. I've never been a fan of the class but Professor Richardson makes it not so bad. He tries to make jokes every now and again which are usually kinda corny and not funny [which makes you laugh anyways] but overall, he's just a nice guy. He's willing to help so just ask if you're having problems. But his grading scale is different than most teachers - you only need a 50% to pass the class. A 85+ is an A, a 75+ is a B, etc... So you can see how it's not impossible to at least get a C, even if you're terrible at chemistry. I'd recommend taking him out of the other choices of professors.

He's a nice guy and his class isn't that boring so it goes fast. The class is hard but definitely not impossible. If you are stuck, ask for help!! He is more than happy to help when you come to his office hours and he is very approachable. Make sure you understand what he talks about during class and do all the homework. The tests are hard, but if you do well on the quizzes it will bring your grade up. I would definitely take him again if I could.

Dr. Richardson is definitely an awesome man. I feared the Quant Lab as a person would fear the plague...I was incredibly worried most of the time about the accuracy and precision scores. But after being reassured that "they might suck" the first couple of labs (and that it takes time to actually develop better quantitative skills), I mainly focused on the homework, quizzes, and the lab reports. Richardson is not a harsh grader when it comes to labs (because he figured that you guys know how to write good lab reports the previous semester). The main thing I have to say is focus on your homework, pay attention to lecture, and when you get a week to write a formal lab report, spend a good deal of your weekend working on it. He was incredibly friendly in the lab and was around a lot for help. I wish I could have had him in first semester lab, because he made chem lab an awesome experience. Richardson gives you the impression that he's more like a mentor rather than a teacher. And his jokes are a riot, expletives included. Awesome man. Very awesome man. More than awesome, but PHENOMENAL MAN. A++.

This class isn't that bad. Sure you have to do some reading, and it does help if you had chem in high school. He is easy going, and willing to help you whenever. In class, if you don't understand something, just raise your hand and ask. He will go over different examples if you ask him. Plus, a big bonus is that if you ask him, you can use an older edition of the text. The back of the chapter questions are a little different, but if you got a friend in the class that has the right text, you’re made. Take him if you are interested in nuclear bombs, not that he would try to make one or anything…

Dr. Richardson is an awesome guy. He is hardcore about his chemistry, so pay attention. He has a bit of a potty mouth, but most of the time he keeps it under control. This lab was a blast though, I never thought I would enjoy a lab, but this one rocked. The whole driving force that made this lab fun was the detailed instruction so you actually knew what was going on instead of following a cookbook and the fact that you had to not screw up because you are graded for your results. If you screw up you can guarantee the "cat's eyes" or double zeroes for accuracy and precision. I highly recommend Dr. Richardson for any class.

I will tell it like it is. This prof. gives good notes, but it is too bad that he doesn't test on what he gives us, at least on the multiple choice. The essay did come directly from the homework, and the notes/ book chapters, but all recognition of the test questions stop there. The first quiz was no indication of what was to follow, so most who did well on it were shocked when they got back the first exam. I am not sure where this guy got his mult. choice questions from, most likely another text book similar to ours. I would highly recommend that anyone considering this course with this prof. should reconsider, and take it with someone else. It speaks volumes when he has to give 30 extra credit points for a notebook we had to do on chapter questions, and he uses an extra quiz for more bonus points, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's a good thing. I found out too late that those 30+ points turn into desperately needed points. A general education course should be more geared towards the basics, not the "you should have known how to do that" type of problems, what is that anyway? Duh, if you don't tell us don't assume we will get it. Any good teacher understands that, and puts the success of their students first. If you want to save your GPA avoid this guy!

Dr. Richardson is a good guy and I think he could be a good prof, but I found him incredibly ridiculous and hard. He makes little sense and is never in his office. The chemistry tutors could not help me because of the insane way he teaches the class.

Dr. Richardson is a good professor when he's lecturing. He explains concepts thoroughly, answers questions, and makes things easy to understand. The one thing that made this rating neutral instead of positive is that he doesn't test on what he teaches. He'll use simple problems as examples in lecture and you'll think you really understand it, then you'll get a quiz or test and not have a clue what to do. It feels like he picks the hardest questions to test you on and it makes the class so frustrating. I feel like half the time I end up just sitting there staring at the questions thinking, "C'mon, are you serious?" ...But just write down as much as you can and he'll give you partial credit. Out of the other Chem teachers, I'd recommend him. He's not easy but he'll be willing to help. His class curve helps a lot with grades, too!
